Back Home (almost)

I'm on the bus at the Guanajuato bus station. We're about to leave for SMA, and I'll (hopefully) be home, in my house, by 5. It's been about 25 hours since I left la Casa de mi padre para ir a LAX. No es necesita para decir que estoy muy cansado. Cansadisimo, as they say.

I'm in that transitional state between cultures, between countries, and it's intensified by the lack of sleep. I was up late Sunday, packing, sorting, weighing my bags, repacking, reweighing. I slept for a few hours, then woke up and managed to get all the stuff in the garage back into bins and boxes and put back on the shelves. Then Mitch arrived and we completed a few last minute errands before he, my dad, and I piled into my dad's car, bound for the airport.

I was very early by design. My two check in bags weighed in at 49.5 pounds and 51 pounds. The gal checking the bags said the 1 pound overage wasn't a problem, thank god.

I managed to sleep for an hour, maybe two, on the flight to Dallas. After I arrived at DFW, around midnight, I had a nine hour layover. I managed to get a couple of hours sleep at terminal D, where they have some comfy couches on which one can stretch out. Another couple of hours sleep on the flight from DFW to BJX.

Taxi to Silao. Bus to Guanajuato. Bus to SMA. Almost there. I'm going to try to stay awake as long as I can so I don't wake up in the middle if the night.

Must remember to turn on the water heater, so I can shower before bed. I can't remember what food, if any, I have left. It would be awesome if there is some granola and soy milk.

The previous two weeks seem distant, like they happened long ago. A different reality. A different me, the L.A. me. L.A. me isn't so different from Mexico me, yet each feels distinct. I'm not yet Mexico me. I will be as soon as I can relax at home. Being this tired I feel the need to be vigilant.

I can't wait to see my babies. I've been dreaming of them in these brief snatches of sleep. I wonder what, if anything, they will think of the new dog, Kirby, I am bringing with me from Los Angeles. They probably won't even comprehend Kirby, since he is two dimensional.

  1. Mark, my comments keep disappearing when I attempt to write. Let's see if this one works. Love, Stephen
